The promise

With pounding fists of rage it fell
Shattered to the ground.
The pieces scattered and the truth was lost
Lies and rumors crawled into the corpse of love with the skill of maggots into a fallen body.

They gathered round you with the guise of mourners
Praying for a lost soul.
In between your falling tears they let the poison drip
Stained now was your sanity
A foul companion to a broken heart
Instead of food from mortal realm they gave you lies of hate
Which corrupted a soul of purity, and broke a fragile mind.

The falling raindrops, sent to see if rescue was a capability
Came back with news of sorrow
Gone was the loving Angel
Replaced with a demon of misplaced hate

I mourned and cried as you once had
For so lost was your soul
You dealt in backdrops and played deadly hands
Slowly turning to the monster that gave your fell
A copy seemingly perfect yet never once so

The call came and I rose to answer
And yet I wish I hadn’t
They sent me to change a demon
But an impossible task it was.
They said to show the truth and reveal the hidden grace
But your heart could not allow.
So in such a case as so many others before
They ordered the demon slain
And my hand and heart as one could not be stilled

I went and was greeted by hateful words and actions
You cursed my name and attempted murder
By this I had no choice
A true demon forever, as you sat upon a broken throne
I took the blade and cast it through
And in that silent moment your soul fell forward and love filled the broken cracks
With your shell of human sorrow cast away, it showed my angel once more
A moment of bliss fell and happiness returned
Then as once before, it fell and shattered, as a backward glance you cast
Your mind unraveled as fine thread when you saw with shock and horror what your tyranny had cost
And once more you fell lost to me
But this time not to hate, but to sorrow

And you turned and ran, and I as love commanded followed
You pushed and shoved me away feeling unfit and tainted
You made the choice of redemption as your soul fell away as dust to wind.

I gathered up my shaking soul and let the tears cascade
But a voice however faint swore me to a promise of wait
For it said you had left but only to return
Apparently my love was not misgiven.
A promise to wait for one of redemption to return to the arms of the waiting
For I said as teary voices bled the forsaken mind of forgotten
The promise binds not me to you
but love to us
I wrote this forever ago
